Dr. David Radford’s grandfather, Virgil D. Evans, D.M., D.C., started the practice in 1929. Dr. Evans was a graduate chemist. He attended Western Reserve Medical School, in his second year he transferred to National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois where he obtained his D.M. and D.C. degrees. Upon returning to Cleveland in 1933 he established the Cleveland Chiropractic Clinic after helping start the Metropolitan College of Chiropractic.
Dr. David Radford’s father, Warren S. Radford, D.M., D.C., joined Dr. Evans in the Cleveland Chiropractic Clinic practice in 1952. Dr. Warren Radford was a graduate of the University of Florida, and the Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indiana.
During his career, Dr. Warren Radford was active in studying adolescent scoliosis and all forms of treatment including spine surgery. He actively supported the Shrine Hospital system for children with scoliosis, and he researched the spinal problems and disc disease associated with faulty seating designs. From his research he developed several U.S., Canadian, and Japanese patents for orthopedic devices for preventing and treating spinal problems. He developed the country's first patented contoured orthopedic chair back design that has become the most popular design and the standard for aircraft, office and automobile seating today.
The nearly 90 year old chiropractic practice was moved from Cleveland to Solon and is currently in Warrensville Heights providing the citizens of our community more than eight decades of continuous health care service.
Dr. Evans was proud of this continuation and I think that if he and Dr. Warren S. Radford were alive today, they would enjoy the distance that our profession has traveled since those humble beginnings in 1929.
The chiropractic profession has evolved since 1895, just as all medicine has, from the days of the old bone setters of early America. The profession has outlasted decades of controversy and persecution. Currently there are 70,000 plus doctors of chiropractic practicing in the US.
Chiropractic physicians currently represent the second largest group of health care providers in the United States, and serve patients nearly every country in the world.
